Why Use Earplugs?

Do you suffer from ringing in your ears, temporary deafness or difficulty understanding speech after exposure to loud music?

These are warning signs that you may have suffered permanent hearing loss.

Musicians, DJ's and entertainment industry workers often take their ears for granted, despite using them to make their living. Hearing loss is a dirty secret throughout the entertainment industry. It is endemic, but rarely acknowledged as a problem.

Noise induced hearing loss is irreversible and permanent. There are currently no medical or surgical cures. The human body usually heals itself, but hearing damage never heals.

Noise levels are often well above 100 dB in concert venues and nightclubs, with peak levels much higher. Government guidelines recommend exposure at this level for no longer than 15 minutes without suitable hearing protection (DEIR 2006).

Employees have a legal right to be "supplied with personal hearing protectors" by their employers (NCoP 2004). Employees have a
legal obligation to wear the hearing protection provided by their employer (WHSR 1997),
and (DEIR 2007).
